Why a Winter Swim Camp Runs in an Indoor Pool

Why we run a winter swim camp in an indoor pool: steady conditions, clear underwater footage, the Belek venue and the 200 m prerequisite.

February 2025, Gloria Sports Arena: three participants with arms raised in the indoor pool.

In short: Swim Up Winter runs in an indoor pool at Gloria Sports Arena in Belek, and asks for 200 m without stopping. We chose an indoor pool because conditions stay the same from session to session, so underwater footage reads clearly.

Winter is when many adult swimmers lose form. Outdoor swims end, race season is over and the pool becomes a place you visit out of habit. It is also the best time to rebuild technique, because nothing is at stake.

Swim Up Winter takes place on the Mediterranean coast near Antalya. This note covers why we run it in winter, what the venue offers, what we ask of you and what a day looks like.

Why a winter camp in an indoor pool?

Three reasons.

No race pressure. In summer, volume goes up and technique often slips. In winter you can slow down, change something and let it settle before the season begins.

Stable conditions. An indoor pool means the water, the temperature and the light are the same each day. That consistency matters for filming, because what the footage shows is your stroke, not the weather or the light.

A real break. Four days of swimming in a warm place while much of Europe is cold is not a luxury so much as a practical way to give your stroke full attention.

The camp follows our method: measure, explain, correct. We film your stroke underwater; national swimming coaches review the footage with you frame by frame, explain your faults and agree three priorities. The method page covers the detail.

Gloria Sports Arena: what the venue offers

Gloria Sports Arena is a sports camp centre in Belek where national teams also prepare. According to the information we hold, it has:

  • a 50 m outdoor pool and a 50 m indoor pool;
  • a 25 m outdoor pool, plus diving and rehabilitation pools;
  • electronic timing and starting blocks;
  • a dryland training hall;
  • food and drink arranged for athletes, and an ice and recovery facility.

Pool sizes and lane numbers come from the venue’s information and are confirmed for each season. For current technical detail, please refer to Gloria Sports Arena’s own website. We have not repeated claims here that we cannot check against it.

A 50 m pool matters for technique work because long lengths show you how your stroke holds, and the longer rhythm is hard to find in a 25 m pool.

Prerequisite: 200 m without stopping

Winter asks for one thing: 200 m without stopping. We build the rest together.

That distance is deliberate. It is short enough that most regular swimmers can do it, and long enough to show that you can keep moving while thinking about your stroke. We do not set a speed requirement or an age limit.

If you are not sure, our note on prerequisites explains how to test yourself. If you fall short, say so when you apply. We will tell you honestly whether the camp suits you now or after a few weeks of preparation.

Getting to Belek and staying there

Belek is on the coast east of Antalya and is reached by flying into Antalya Airport. Airport transfers are not included in the camp, so plan the last stretch of your journey in advance. After you apply, we share travel and rooming details in writing.

Every camp is a package. Accommodation, meals and coaching are included; underwater technical analysis is part of it when the camp announcement includes it. Airport transfers are not.

We do not publish prices on the site. Cost and payment terms are sent after your application, and applying is not binding.

Daily rhythm in a winter camp

A sample day runs from morning to evening. Times differ by camp, and the programme is confirmed after you apply.

  • Light stretching and breakfast.
  • A first pool session with cameras recording.
  • Video analysis on screen, late morning.
  • Lunch and rest.
  • A dryland session in the afternoon.
  • A second pool session.
  • Dinner, then a talk, yoga, or an analysis recap.

The balance is deliberate: swim, look, correct, swim again. There is a fuller view on A day at camp.

How we announce winter dates

At the time of writing, dates for the next winter camp at Gloria Sports Arena have not been announced, so we are not giving any here.

When dates are fixed, we write first to everyone who has written to us, before the general announcement. When a camp is open, the Swim Up Winter page lets you request a place, and our team writes back within 48 hours.

For the wider picture of what a camp involves, read the adult swim camp guide. The land-based side is covered in dryland training for swimmers.

If you want to be among the first to know, join the list and we will write as soon as the dates are confirmed.

When a new camp has dates, we reply to anyone who wrote to us before the public announcement.
